Meet Yitz Stern
“I’ve dedicated my life to public service, fiscal responsibility, and community leadership. As a former Teaneck Deputy Mayor and Councilman, I’ve worked to strengthen local government, improve public safety, and advocate for affordability.
Now, I’m stepping up once again to bring real leadership to Trenton. Together, we can create a stronger, more affordable Bergen County for all.”
✔ “A Lifetime of Service, A Commitment to Bergen County”
Emil “Yitz” Stern is a lifelong Teaneck resident, husband, father of four, former Deputy Mayor, and current Chief Financial Officer for Bergen County’s Department of Public Safety. A public servant with decades of experience in local government, Yitz has spent his career navigating the intersections of finance, infrastructure, emergency management, and community development.
Yitz previously served on the Teaneck Council, where he championed fiscal responsibility and public safety while fostering strong partnerships between local government and the communities it serves. As CFO for Bergen County Public Safety, he brings a deep understanding of how to budget wisely and invest in resources that protect and support families.
Yitz is running for the Assembly because he believes public service should be rooted in presence, preparation, and action. He’s committed to restoring trust in government by showing up consistently and delivering for his constituents. His priorities include lowering property taxes, strengthening schools, expanding housing access, and ensuring public dollars are used effectively and transparently.
With a background in law and nonprofit advocacy, Yitz knows how to build coalitions and lead with purpose. He’s not running for recognition—he’s running to make government work better for the people of District 37.
Together, Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez Carroll are running as the community’s candidates for Assembly in Legislative District 37—leaders who show up, listen closely, and deliver for the people they serve.
