Commitment to Community and Shared Values
At Together for Bergen 37, Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez Carroll believe in building a New Jersey that is inclusive, safe, and respectful for every family, including our vibrant Jewish and Hispanic communities.
This is not just campaign rhetoric — it’s a commitment rooted in action, shared values, and ongoing dialogue.
Our Policy Priorities:
Grounded in Equity, Opportunity, and Respect for All Communities
Accessible, Accountable Leadership for All
We believe elected officials should be present, responsive, and accountable to every community they serve. Our commitment includes:
-
Maintaining open communication with residents and community organizations
-
Advocating boldly in Trenton for what matters most to our families
-
Leading with integrity, not partisanship
Real representation means showing up, staying engaged, and earning your trust. We’re not beholden to political machines—our commitment is to you, the residents of District 37.

Transportation, Housing, and Affordability
Yitz and Rosemary understand that traffic congestion, rising rents, and high property taxes impact families across our district—from Teaneck to Hackensack, Englewood to Ridgefield Park. We support:
-
Increased NJ Transit funding to expand bus and rail options in underserved areas
-
Local infrastructure investments that fix neighborhood roads, not just highways
-
Smart development policies that promote mixed-income, senior, and affordable housing
-
Expanding homeownership opportunities while preserving the character of our towns
-
Restoring full state funding for public schools to reduce the local tax burden
-
Increasing PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) contributions from large nonprofits
-
A state budget that invests in schools, safety, and infrastructure without overburdening homeowners
-
Expanding support programs to help seniors and lower-income residents stay in their homes
We are focused on building a New Jersey that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.

Investing in All Students
We support strong, well-resourced public schools and recognize the value that nonpublic schools bring to many families. Our approach is inclusive:
-
Fully funding public education with equity and excellence
-
Supporting fair funding for nonpublic school services like security, transportation, special education, and STEM in non-public schools
-
Protecting students’ rights in all learning environments
-
Supporting families seeking education aligned with their cultural or religious values
-
Explore innovative ways to expand access to affordable, quality education for all families, including through public-private partnerships
Every child deserves a safe, enriching education that meets their unique needs and circumstances.
Safer, More Inclusive Communities
Everyone deserves to feel safe—in their schools, neighborhoods, and places of worship. We support:
-
Collaborative strategies that build trust between communities and law enforcement
-
Targeted funding to enhance security at schools, houses of worship, and vulnerable institutions
-
Expanding Holocaust and anti-hate education to promote understanding and tolerance
-
Crime prevention efforts that focus on education, mental health, and rehabilitation
Whether you’re attending school, worship services, or simply living your life, you deserve to feel safe and protected.

Standing Against Antisemitism and All Forms of Hate
Antisemitism and bigotry of any kind have no place in our society. We will:
-
Support the IHRA definition of antisemitism
-
Advocate for stronger hate crime legislation
-
Promote Holocaust and anti-bias education in our schools
We believe that every community must be protected and respected, and we will always speak out against hate.

Bringing Communities Together
Our district is proudly diverse—racially, culturally, religiously, and economically. Yitz and Rosemary believe that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. We’ll be voices for bridge-building, not wedge politics.
-
Supporting interfaith and intercultural dialogue
-
Promoting shared public spaces that reflect our diversity
-
Backing policies that benefit every neighborhood, not just a select few
Our mission is to bring people together around shared values and a better future.
Reflecting the Full District
Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez Carroll bring different lived experiences to their shared mission of public service.
Rosemary, a proud daughter of Dominican immigrants and a small business owner, deeply understands the challenges of working families and the voices that too often go unheard.
Yitz, a longtime Teaneck resident, public safety expert, and former Deputy Mayor, brings decades of fiscal and policy leadership across local and state government.
Together, they are committed to building a future rooted in unity, opportunity, and respect for all communities in District 37.
Rooted in Community, Guided by People
Long before this campaign, Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez Carroll have stood with the people of District 37 — not just in words, but in action.
Yitz has spent decades working in public service, including as a member of the New Jersey Israel Commission and the NJ Commission on Holocaust Education. He has built lasting partnerships with faith-based organizations, cultural institutions, and public safety leaders across Bergen County — promoting mutual respect, safety, and equity for all.
Rosemary has joined neighbors of every background in speaking out against hate, advocating for inclusive leadership that reflects the full diversity of our district, from immigrant families and youth programs to small business owners, educators, and seniors.
Together, they have shown up at moments of celebration and moments of crisis, listening, learning, and lending their voice across communities.
This campaign is not guided by political machines or top-down interests. It is powered by people, rooted in community, accountable to residents, and committed to every corner of District 37.

Prioritizing Mental Health Across Our District
Both Rosemary Hernandez Carroll and Yitz Stern have been designated 2025 Mental Health Now Candidates, a national recognition for leaders who have pledged to keep mental health at the forefront of their public policy priorities.
They understand that mental health affects every family, and they are committed to ensuring that care, awareness, and support are woven into the fabric of how we govern. Their mental health policy priorities include:
• Expanding access to care in every community, especially those historically underserved
• Supporting school-based mental health services to help students and families thrive
• Improving crisis response infrastructure, reducing reliance on law enforcement for mental health emergencies
• Ending stigma by promoting public awareness and culturally competent education
Mental health is not a side issue — it’s a public health imperative. Yitz and Rosemary are proud to lead with empathy, action, and accountability.

Together, We Can Build a Stronger
New Jersey
We are ready to work across communities, across faiths, and across party lines to advance shared priorities: strong schools, safe neighborhoods, economic opportunity, and a future built on respect and inclusion.
We are honored to seek your trust — and to fight every day for the values that matter most.
